Why I Built Neokaal Study
Most updates on this blog are written on behalf of Neokaal. This post is a little more personal. I’d like to share a personal experiment that began at my study table.
Since April this year, I’ve been spending a lot of time helping my son prepare for his Class 10 board examinations. Like many parents, I found that understanding a concept is only half the battle. The other half is practice.
There are already many excellent websites and videos that explain mathematical concepts. What I found myself searching for, again and again, were well-organized sets of practice problems: enough questions to build confidence, arranged from simple to challenging, with answers that could be checked later.
That observation led to a small experiment.
Today, I’m launching the first version of Neokaal Study. It currently focuses on CBSE Class 10 Mathematics and provides worksheets covering individual problem types.
The goal isn’t to replace textbooks, teachers, or existing learning platforms. It is simply another resource that students can use when they need more practice.
Most of the worksheets are generated automatically. Behind the scenes, I’ve been building software that creates mathematically correct problems from reusable templates, solves them automatically, and generates answer keys. This allows me to produce large collections of practice questions while keeping the formatting and difficulty reasonably consistent. Because the generation process is reproducible, I can continue improving the generators over time while maintaining consistency.
The project is still in its early stages.
Many topics are incomplete. The explanations are minimal. Some worksheets will undoubtedly need improvement. I’ll continue refining the problem generators as I discover better ways to represent different kinds of mathematics and as I receive feedback from students, parents, and teachers.
One design principle is unlikely to change: I want the material to remain freely accessible. If this experiment proves useful, I’ll gradually expand it to cover more chapters, richer explanations, handwritten solutions where appropriate, and eventually other subjects as well.
This project started from a personal need. I wanted a better way to help my own son prepare for his examinations. If it ends up helping a few other students along the way, I’ll consider the experiment a success.
